Bowwow Powwow with Brenda Child & Jonathan Thunder

Saturday, June 9th. 11am-1pm.
Birchbark Books & ARTrageous Adventures

Kids! Get ready for stories, crafts, refreshments, and fun at the book launch celebration of Bowwow Powwow! Author Brenda Child and Illustrator Jonathan Thunder will be sharing from the book at 11am and noon. Each reading will be followed by a book signing, cookies and lemonade, and a chance to make your own Jingle Dancer or Grass Dancer popsicle stick puppet. Bowwow Powwow tells the story of Windy Girl, who takes the revelry of the powwow one step further, into a dreamworld where the dancers and singers are dogs. This playful story by Brenda Child is accompanied by a companion retelling in Ojibwe by Gordon Jourdain and brought to life by Jonathan Thunder’s vibrant dreamscapes. The result is a powwow tale for the ages.

Tommy Orange: There There

Wednesday, June 27 @ 7pm
Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church
2020 W Lake of the Isles Parkway, Mpls

Join us for an evening with Tommy Orange in celebration of his first novel, There There. Fierce, angry, funny, heartbreaking—There There is a wondrous and shattering portrait of an America few of us have ever seen, a relentlessly paced multigenerational story about violence and recovery, memory and identity, and the beauty and despair woven into the history of a nation and its people. Louise Erdrich says, “Welcome to a brilliant and generous artist who has already enlarged the landscape of American Fiction. There There is a comic vision haunted by profound sadness. Tommy Orange is a new writer with an old heart.” We haven't seen this much buzz about a debut novel in some time. Books will be available for purchase at the event. Book signing to follow the reading. Free and open to the public.
